In this workshop we are going to study how to make and fix colours in fibers. (Fabrics or yarn) We will begin choosing fibres to dye and discovering animal and vegetables fibres. Discuss how to select quality fibers, tools, and plants. How to prepare fibers for the dye bath. How to fix colorants to fiber with help of mordants. Making your own mordants.Selecting a best dye method (cold, hot dying). Experimenting with seasonal dye baths from weeds, foraged ingredients, or garden growns and a bouquet of spring flowers as well noble dyeing plants. Preparation of dye bath and dyeing different fibers. We will create colorful palette with accessible dye recipes, inspiring ways of working with natural dyes, designing with local botanical color from around Vienna. We'll make vibrant seasonal colours and talks about plants, materials and techniques. We will add meaning to the fabrics and working mindfully for creating slow textile all together.
