On the significance of artist residencies

They offer the possibility of working in a fresh environment, making new contacts, and facilitate cultural exchange. In September 2018 Manaf Halbouni (AIR KulturKontakt) and Yesmine Ben Khelil (AIR philomena+) will come to Vienna as artists in residence. While Manaf Halbouni left his native country Syria ten years ago, Yesmine Ben Khelil lives and works in Tunisia. Their different starting situations are complemented by the position of the artist duo Irena Eden and Stijn Lernout, who live in Austria and have participated in multiple residency programs.
