Open Studio: Imran Channa

On Tuesday, 22 October 2024, between 4 and 8 pm, Imran Channa invites visitors to his temporary studio and provides insights into his preparations for A Fable for Tomorrow, an exhibition in collaboration with Kateryna Lysovenko that will open during Vienna Art Week. Visitors to his studio will not only be transported into a speculative future, but will also have the opportunity to taste culinary specialities prepared by the artist himself, who is a passionate cook. Artist-in-Residence Imran Channa was born in Sindh, Pakistan, graduated from the National College of Arts in Lahore and now lives in the Netherlands after further studies at the Jan Eyck Academy in Maastricht. His works deal with the power and politics of storytelling and how the act of storytelling creates information and misinformation. He explores this theme through the lens of archives, architecture, artefacts, film and technology. He uses drawing, painting, moving images, installations and digital technology as a means to explore this mechanism of power and its influence on shaping social consciousness. Imran Channa’s work has been shown worldwide in numerous museums, galleries, art fairs and media art festivals in the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, the USA, Belgium, Switzerland, France, UAE, Algeria, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, and Pakistan.
