Zeitgenössischer Künstler - Simon Kaiser

If you never try, you'll never know what you are capable of.

I was born in 1993 in Lower Bavaria, Germany, and currently live and work in Vienna, Austria. After completing my chimney sweep apprenticeship in 2012, I began studying architecture in Munich, graduating with a master’s degree in Innsbruck, Austria, in 2020. I experiment extensively, using various tools and materials, while intentionally leaving room for serendipity and new accents. For me, drawing is a way to let go of perfectionism and reflect my inner world. I am fascinated by how perception shifts depending on the distance from which my works are viewed. My art is not about providing clear answers but about posing questions and creating space for encounters—with oneself, with others, and with the moment. My art combines a spontaneous, expressive visual language with a profound reflection on self-awareness and acceptance. Through the interplay of chaos and harmony, I emphasize the balance between intuition and structure to evoke emotional reactions and challenge viewers’ perceptions. My goal is to create a dialogue that makes the relationship between inner spontaneity and external order tangible and opens new perspectives.

With my art, I aim to encourage people to let go of perfectionism and question their own perceptions. It’s about breaking free from external norms and celebrating the diversity of experiences and perspectives. My works are an invitation to understand and embrace the balance—or imbalance—between chaos and harmony, both in personal life and in our shared interactions. My vision is to become a recognized and active figure in the art world in the coming years, both locally and internationally. I aim to build a strong network, share my art widely, and collaborate with other artists. My work will focus on promoting self-awareness and freedom through art. My work is deeply rooted in a social context shaped by themes such as self-awareness, acceptance, and the release of perfectionism. My background—from growing up in Lower Bavaria to my journey from a chimney sweep apprenticeship to an architecture degree—subtly informs my art. My creations bridge the tangible world with the intangible emotions of freedom and acceptance. By employing traditional mediums like ink, charcoal, and pastel, I return to the essence of artistic expression while reflecting on life in a society defined by technology and performance. As a visual artist, I delve into the world of drawing, focusing primarily on ink, pencil, charcoal, and pastel. My artistic journey is driven by the constant pursuit of structure and a desire for reinvention. My creative process often begins in chaos. From an initially unstructured base, I gradually craft a sense of harmony that resonates with me. Distance plays a critical role here: what appears chaotic from afar may reveal intricate details up close — and vice versa. The choice of materials significantly shapes this interplay between chaos and harmony. While pastel allows for bold, expressive forms, ink facilitates intricate details and smooth transitions. I enjoy oscillating between these extremes, continually discovering new avenues of expression. My inspiration stems largely from the act of creation itself. The moment of applying color and the interaction between pigment and paper provide an endless wellspring of creativity. I experiment with various tools — brushes, pipettes, spatulas, and more. Even the texture of materials, whether solid, powdery, viscous, or liquid, profoundly influences both the creative process and the final outcome. Transitioning from realistic drawing to abstraction has been part of my effort to break free from the pressure of delivering “perfect” results in a performance-driven society. Through abstraction, I’ve embraced a way of engaging with perfectionism by deliberately introducing new, unexpected elements. These moments of overcoming challenges remain the most demanding yet rewarding, offering significant growth artistically and personally. My art often reflects my inner world, even if its deeper meaning reveals itself to me only later — or sometimes not at all. I consider myself a reflective individual who questions everything and takes nothing for granted — a mindset mirrored in my artistic practice. Ultimately, my work seeks to balance detail and overall composition, control and freedom. Each piece presents a fresh challenge, a new adventure — and that’s precisely what fuels my passion for the artistic process.
